Patterns Exit Point

We were very fortunate to be invited to the Marriott Hotel for our Patterns Exit Point. We were made to feel very welcome by Marcel, Natalie and Angelina's dad, and his team who met us at the entrance of the hotel. We split into 2 groups. One group went with Chef Anthony, Ms Shirley, Jeannine and Tone to decorate cupcakes, while the other group went with Ms Jacqueline, Karen, Kimberly, Christine and Dave to play pattern games. After a cool drink of water, we swapped over. It was a fantastic experience for all of us and we'd like to say a big thank you to Marcel, Chef Anthony, Christine and Dave who spent their morning making it a fun event.

Splash Again!

Thank you to Karen for the photos in this slideshow. I have added more to the earlier slideshow. It is lovely to see how much fun the children are having and how their confidence at being in the "big" pool has grown!

Splash!

We were all very excited this morning at the prospect of showing off our swimming skills to our parents. Mr Hennie organised fun relays like the Pizza Delivery (we delivered a "pizza" to the other side on our kickboards); Spaghetti Junction (we swam with our noodles); Krazy Kicka (we held on to our kickboards and kicked like crazy :-); Doughnut Derby (we put armbands on and swam to the other side where we passed them on to our team mate) and Double Trouble (2 of us held onto an inner tube and kicked). Everyone was so impressed to see how much we had learned in swimming this year. A big thank you to Ms Emma, who played music and kept everyone informed with her commentary. We also appreciated the help of Mr Anthony, Ms Chloe, Ms Isabelle and Mr Colum in the water as well as the mums who helped on the side. Ms Yvette started all our races and we were very good at waiting for the hooter. It wouldn't have been half as much fun without the fantastic support of all the parents and grandparents who came to watch us, so thank you all very much. A big thank you to Tone and Karen for the photos in the slideshow. As I receive more photos, I'll add them.

Patterns from other countries

This week we are taking a look at some patterns from our host country, Sarawak, as well as patterns from Scotland and Australia. We have learned about kilts and the special pattern that they have. We tried some paper weaving of our own with Ms Melanie. Ms Shirley taught us about some Iban traditions and we made our own feathered headbands. Ms Jacqueline read us a story from Australia and all the illustrations were created with dot painting. We tried our own dot paintings. We were very pleased with all our activities!

Happy Birthday!

Aiden celebrated his 5th birthday today. He shared some Ben Ten cupcakes with us and we each had a party bag full of goodies. Thank you!

Book Week Parade

We had such fun on Friday. Our classroom was beautifully decorated outside by Ms Shirley in the style of our book of the week, Annie Apple's Adventure and we all came to school dressed as a book character. There were beautiful princesses, 2 Jake the Pirates, 2 Ben Tens, Fancy Nancy, Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, Darth Vader & Princess Leia, Pippi Longstocking, the New Avengers, a police lady, Tyrannosaurus Dad, a fireman, Little Red Riding Hood, Dr McStuffins and Annie Apple herself!

We paraded through the hall to show everyone our costumes, then returned to class for an adventure story. We shared the books that we had brought in with our friends. At the end of the day, we went to the book fair in the hall and bought some books to read.

Thank you, Mr Colum, Ms Melanie and Ms Siong-Siong for a fun-filled week.

Book Week

We had a great start to Book Week. Author Nic Toczak gave us an entertaining show,  reciting poems from his books and doing magic tricks that amazed us. We went to a mini workshop with him and made up our own class poem. Ms Jacqueline read Annie Apple's Adventure to us and we made our own rocket bookmarks. We can't wait for tomorrow's story!

Animal Patterns

We learned about 3 different types of animals: mammals, reptiles and insects. We learned that they have patterns for two reasons: to look unique and to camouflage themselves. We enjoyed doing art and craft to replicate the patterns.
