Au Revoir, Ms Jessica!

We have been very fortunate to have Ms Jessica volunteering in our class for the past 2 months. We have grown very fond of Ms Jessica and we will miss her friendly smile and kind helping hand. After her time with us, Ms Jessica has decided to become a teacher and we wish her well in her studies!

Sand and Water Exit Point

For the first time in 5 years, it rained during our Sand and Water exit point! We were so excited when the rain came pouring down. We put on our waterproof clothing, grabbed our umbrellas and headed out for some fun in the rain and puddles.

Water

We enjoyed learning about the water cycle and the 3 states of water. We learned that water travels in a cycle and explored the different states of water. We made ice lollies with Ms Melanie, tea with Ms Jacqueline and Ms Shirley reminded us of the importance of drinking enough water each day and washing our hands regularly.

Parent Drop In

We were very lucky to have our mums and dads come and visit us in class last week. They could see where we like to play, who our friends are and all the work that we've been doing this year. It was a fun morning!

Happy Birthday!

Thaneesh brought in a super Spiderman cake, sandwiches and juice to celebrate his birthday on the 29th January. Thank you!

Waterproofing

We investigated the waterproof properties of various materials. We discovered that if a material was waterproof, the object protected by it would remain dry, whereas if it was not waterproof, the object would be wet. We touched materials like plastic, kitchen towel, tinfoil, cotton and paper and predicted whether they would be waterproof or not. We recorded which materials were waterproof. We then selected a waterproof and non-waterproof coat for the girl on our paper. When we had finished our experiments, we enjoyed playing with our friends.

Piasau Camp Bird Walk

Nienke, Tofunmi and Arthur woke up very early this morning to do some birdspotting with Mr Musa and Mr Erwin from the Miri Birdwatching Society. Ms Julie and Ms Sarah were there too. We were very lucky to spot many of the birds that we find on Piasau Camp: Southern Oriental Pied Hornbills, Hill Mynas, Dollarbirds, Yellow-vented Bulbuls, Oriental Tree-Sparrows, Glossy Swiftlets, Pink-necked Green Pigeon, Collared Kingfishers, Asian Glossy Starling, White-breasted Waterhen and the Brahminy Kite. We had such fun spotting the birds and then went back to the Boat Club for a delicious breakfast sponsored by the Piasau Boat Club. It was a lovely, well-organised morning!
