Waterproofing
We investigated the waterproof properties of various materials. We discovered that if a material was waterproof, the object protected by it would remain dry, whereas if it was not waterproof, the object would be wet. We touched materials like plastic, kitchen towel, tinfoil, cotton and paper and predicted whether they would be waterproof or not. We recorded which materials were waterproof. We then selected a waterproof and non-waterproof coat for the girl on our paper. When we had finished our experiments, we enjoyed playing with our friends.

Piasau Camp Bird Walk
Nienke, Tofunmi and Arthur woke up very early this morning to do some birdspotting with Mr Musa and Mr Erwin from the Miri Birdwatching Society. Ms Julie and Ms Sarah were there too. We were very lucky to spot many of the birds that we find on Piasau Camp: Southern Oriental Pied Hornbills, Hill Mynas, Dollarbirds, Yellow-vented Bulbuls, Oriental Tree-Sparrows, Glossy Swiftlets, Pink-necked Green Pigeon, Collared Kingfishers, Asian Glossy Starling, White-breasted Waterhen and the Brahminy Kite. We had such fun spotting the birds and then went back to the Boat Club for a delicious breakfast sponsored by the Piasau Boat Club. It was a lovely, well-organised morning!

Beach Trip
We had a wonderful morning on the beach! We used all our senses to enjoy the experience to the fullest. We saw the sand, the sea, ships, crabs, birds and plants. We heard the waves and the birds. We could smell the salty smell of the sea. We could feel the sand, the pebbles, shells and the water. When we had finished exploring the beach, we tasted some cool, clear water from the Boat Club. We walked back to school and enjoyed talking about our morning at the beach.

Sand and Water Entry Point
We had such fun playing with sand and water during the entry point to our new topic. Ms Melanie, Ms Sally and Ms Jessica all helped to set up these fun activities and we had the opportunity to experience what happens to sand when it gets wet, to make our own mini water features, to sift through sand, to pour and measure, to wash the dolls and do our own washing and hang it on the line. We can't wait for our trip to the beach tomorrow to explore what we can see, touch, hear, taste and smell when the land meets the sea!
